Where, when and how did you actually meet up with Stephan & Arion?

Ironically Mike Varney was the one who introduced me to Stephan. Over the phone Stephan played Deep Inside and I got a great feeling for what he was up to. Shortly thereafter they flew me up to San Francisco and I jammed with Stephan on the drums and Vocals, and a guy named Jason Slater on the bass, after that rehearsal Stephan asked me to join the band. We jammed on Tattoo of the sun, Farther, Deep Inside. Stephan remains to be the same personality now as he was when I met him, very articulate and driven. Arion didn't join on for another 8 months or so. This was late 1992. 

What demos did you actually play on?

I played guitar on demo versions of Semi charmed life, Farther, Motorcycle Drive By, Wake for Young Souls, Alright Caroline, Tattoo of the Sun and Deep Inside of You.

What were the exact circumstances for you leaving the band? Why did you do so?

When I was originally in third eye blind almost 1 and a half years I viewed the band as Stephan's band because I had my own aspirations to sing and to write my own music which is part of the reason why when the money ran out I was happy to go my own way and pursue it that way. On the other hand Kevin, who was not a singer songwriter at the time, needed a songwriting partner and did live in San Francisco made sense at that time. I didn't even try to pursue a songwriting relationship with Stephan so I don't blame him in not seeing my potential at the time as a songwriter. The wah guitar parts on semi-charmed life are mine. When I left I told Stephan he could use them. That should let you know that we parted on good terms. I also think that as the Majik Alex demo proves is that I am quite capable to write music as well as lyrics. I never tried to write music with Stephan before because there was a part of me that still wanted to be the man in front so I held it back. After exploring being the frontman I found that I didn't think that it was what it was cracked up to be. I respect the music that Stephan and Kevin made, as well as the music that Arion and Stephan have made. We have been working on music together and I also think Stephan could stand on his own with music and lyrics which has been proven through most of their biggest hit songs. 

Did you keep in touch with Stephan and the rest of the band after your departure?

A couple of times before they hit big, we were all busy with our lives.
